Fantastic Phonics in Ethiopia

Ethiopia is among 10 countries with the worst literacy rates in the world.
Fantastic Phonics has donated the reading program to 11 charities and NGOs working in Ethiopia. The key challenge is the gender imbalance - almost twice as many boys are at school than girls. This arises from a range of cultural factors, including traditional practices about the role and position of women in Ethiopian society, and early marriage and pregnancy.
Fantastic Phonics allows a student to learn outside the boundaries of the school, and allows students to practise anywhere, using basic technology to develop phonemic awareness.
